In the book, there are multiple time jumps to tell the end of Tessa and Hardin's story, so there's plenty of scope for the fifth movie to fill in the gaps and give us plenty more drama on its way to a happy ending.īefore the surprise announcement of the fifth movie, we knew that director Castille Landon was working on two more After movies. The fifth movie will pick up from this open ending and we imagine it'll see Tessa and Hardin get back together (eventually), building up to the finale of the book where they live happily ever after. Their final break-up comes when Tessa finds the book that Hardin has been writing, called After, about their relationship. Unlike the book it's based on (which ends with a flash-forward where Tessa and Hardin have two children), the fourth movie ends on a bleaker note as Tessa and Hardin aren't together.
